Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is there a dress code? While there is no formal dress code, students are expected to wear clean, age-appropriate clothing. Students should also wear or bring PE appropriate shoes every day. Hats are not allowed inside the school.
    
2. What are the school hours? 
   Extended Day Program: 7:45 – 8:15 a.m.
   JK-K: 8:15 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
   Grades 1-5: 8:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
   Grades 6-8: 8:15 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.
   Extended Day Program: 2:30 – 6:00 p.m.
    
3. What happens with children after school? Sea Crest offers a comprehensive Extended Day Program (EDP), also known as JAWS, which daily offers a number of enrichment courses like drama, music, chess, and robotics, as well as study halls, healthy snacks, and free play time. Many of our families enroll on a regular basis for a discounted rate, but drop in is also available. This program runs until 6:00 p.m. to support our families. Click here for more information.
    
4. What is the absentee policy and procedure? If your child is ill, please contact Cathy Greenwald to report an excused absence call the main Sea Crest number 650.712.9892 or email cgreenwald@seacrestschool.org.
    

5. What if I need to pick up my child early? If your child has an appointment or is ill, please use the sign-out sheet in the lobby.

6. Does the school provide hot-lunch? We are fortunate to partner with a local company which provides hot lunch for families who choose to use them for some or all days. The program is flexible and you can place your order up to 6:00 a.m. on the day of or set a recurring order. There are a variety of options in the app to choose from with options appropriate for any common dietary restriction. Click here for more information.
    

7. Are there any sports teams? Various sports teams are available to 5th graders and above. Athletics teams are managed through TeamSnap and an email is sent to parents and guardians before the beginning of each season. Click here for more information.

8. What should I do in the classroom for my child’s birthday? Each grade has its own birthday celebration guidelines (usually a group celebration at the end of the month). Please check with your child’s teacher regarding birthday celebrations.

9. What other classroom parties should I expect? Your child’s class may have their celebratory events, such as pajama days, crazy hair day, etc. Your teacher will keep you informed. Please also check the Classroom Connections newsletter every other week.

1. What is the volunteer commitment for parents? Sea Crest has thrived due to the thousands of hours that our parent body gives to all our programs and events each year. Although there are 20 required volunteer hours from each family (any member of the family, including grandparents) every year, most families easily exceed that requirement for “Honorable Hours.”
    
2. What if I have more than one child enrolled at Sea Crest? If you have more than one child enrolled at Sea Crest, your family only needs 20 hours per year (although more would be great!).
    
3. What counts towards volunteer hours? You may record any hours that go towards the benefit of Sea Crest, including: chaperoning field trips, classroom help, cooking hours for food donations, parent association committee meetings, and much more!
    
4. Where do I sign up to volunteer? Sea Crest uses Track it Forward. When volunteer requests are needed, an email is usually sent with the specific link.
    
5. How do I keep track of my volunteer hours? Track your hours through Track it Forward (you will need to create an account).

Auction: Sea Crest’s biggest fundraiser and favorite party of the year (usually in Spring); auction items are available online and also at the auction itself. It will take place on March 21st, 2020. Save the date!

Buddy Family: New families are assigned a “buddy family” to serve as a contact point for questions, introductions, etc.
