sea crest summer program 2010
Looking for something fun and educational for your child to do this summer? Sea Crest School’s week long sessions allow students to customize their summer school experience. Choose from a wide variety of classes to create a unique summer school program that is tailor-made for your child.
Courses, taught by our highly qualified and energetic teaching staff, are designed to provide students with opportunities to explore learning in fun and creative ways. Courses are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a minimum of 8 and maximum of 16 students.
Science Adventures camps run in week-long sessions starting June 21st. Half-days run from
9 a.m.–noon, and cost $180 per week. Full-days run from 9 a.m.–3:30 a.m., and cost $310 per week.
There will be three sessions, July 19th–23rd, July 26th–30th, and August 2nd–6th. Morning classes are from 9–11:30 a.m., and afternoon classes from 12:30 to 5 p.m. There is a lunch break from 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
The cost of the morning sessions is $135 per week. Afternoon sessions are $200. Full-day sessions are $335 per week.
The following is a list of courses available each session. Grade levels listed after each description refer to the grade the student will be entering in the fall.

Week A, June 21–25
Space and Rocketry 2010—Build and Launch Gizmo's Hydro-Rocket!
Get pumped up for some space exploration! Join Gizmo to build his brand new, state-of-the-art hydro-rocket. Using the power of air pressure and water, launch your very own rocket over 100 feet into the air. Bring a bottle from home to design and launch a personalized rocket. Then take a trip around the universe by building a light-up solar system and a model of your galactic address. Stay a full day and get loony about the moon. Build your own motorized K'Nex motorized Lunar Rover and make craters with marble meteorites! Grades 1–5
Week b, June 28–July 2
Gizmo's Robot Factory—Build a Walking K'Nex Robot!
Back by popular demand…one of Gizmo's greatest inventions, the Bugg-Bot! Build a giant insect motorized walking K-Nex robot. Investigate what makes a robot tick as we take a robot's-eye view in 3-D, listen with electronic ears, and prepare to compete in the Robo-Olympics. Stay all day and build a robot model with five robot technologies, create a crazy invention, and discover how robots are changing the face of our world. Power up for fun and discover the secret lives of these extreme machines. Grades 1–5
Week c, July 12–16
Go Wild! Meet Live Animals!
Leap into the wild on an awesome adventure to investigate extreme plants and amazing animals. Join Gizabelle to build a nature kit complete with microscope, bug cage, and binoculars. Meet live animals face-to-face during our amazing Animal Encounter! Stay the full day to take part in the animals Olympics and make glowing fire flies, sticky octopus arms and more. Get ready to explore the world outside your door—it's time to go wild! Grades 1–5
Week d, June 19–23
Mystery of the Pharaoh's Treasure—Solve an Egyptian Mystery!
Journey to the land of the pharaohs to help Gizmo solve a mystery and unearth two long-forgotten treasures! Decipher hieroglyphics, investigate the secret of the sands, predict the rising of the stars to unearth a mummy, and take home a share of the gold. Full-day campers become geologists and build a take home rock collection as they help Gizabelle solve the riddle of the Sphinx and reveal a crystal treasure. Take a step back in time to unravel this mysterious Egyptian adventure! Grades 1–5

Kindergarten Camp
Help your child get ready for his or her first year of school with this wonderful introduction to the Sea Crest Kindergarten program. Grade K
High-Tech Math
Do you want your student to build and strengthen his or her math skills this summer? This class will explore mathematical concepts through technology. It will allow students to enhance their learning while working on computers and the Smart Board. Grades 1–2
Awesome Authors
Attention all young writers! Are you ready to let your creativity flow this summer through fantasy or fiction writing? Whatever your genre of choice, come join me on the journey to becoming an author by publishing your own book (or two). Together we will live the life of a writer as we gather story ideas, develop characters and plot, and finally write and illustrate our own stories. Prepare to explore the writing process in a fun and creative way. As an added bonus, you will get to take home a special keepsake that will be cherished for years to come. Grades 2–3
Summer Bridge to Mathematics
Have you heard about the cool on-line math program called ALEKS? Well, this course is an introduction into using this fantastic and individualized site! Once a student completes a quick assessment to determine his or her skill level, the program customizes a tutorial for the individual math needs. This course has a subscription fee and parents can choose to continue this program over the remaining weeks of summer at home. It is a perfect program to supplement and enrichment math skills over the summer break. Grades 3–8
Native Navigators
Come explore geography in this exciting interactive course that includes learning how to use navigational tools like a compass while developing map skills. The experience will culminate in a hiking fieldtrip in the woods where students will be challenged to make their way through a course using directional cues and the skills they have learned. Grades 4–8
Afternoon camps: week 1, July 19–23
Explorers Camp
Our week-long afternoon program offers children the opportunity to unwind, explore nature, and most importantly, have fun! Through art projects, games, crafts, experiments, and more, our professional camp directors will guide your children on a journey of hands-on learning and discovery. Get in touch with your “green side” and get ready to explore! Grades 1–8

Science Investigations
This fun-filled science learning adventure will take a close up look at many areas of life and environmental science such as gardening, animal habitats and many other science wonders, too! Grades 1–4
Summer Bridge to Literacy: Part I
Looking for an opportunity to sharpen your reading, writing, and spelling skills over the summer? Well, this class will be just that! Designed for students ages 6–9, this is a fun enrichment course to support readers who just need a “bit more” practice over the summer. We will read a little, write a little, and illustrate our work! This will be a two-part course, it is recommended, but not required, that you enroll for both weeks to get the optimal learning value from this experience. Grades 1–3
High-Tech Math
Do you want your student to build and strengthen his or her math skills this summer? This class will explore mathematical concepts through technology. It will allow students to enhance their learning while working on computers and the Smart Board. Math + technology = summer fun! Grades 3–4
Passport to the World
Take a trip around the world with Ms. Connolly. Experience the sights, sounds, cuisine, and geography of some of the world’s most beautiful destinations. Climb Machu Picchu, go on Safari in South Africa, swim with sharks at the second largest barrier reef in Belize, or contemplate life while sitting atop famed Mt. Fuji. This summer you can become a “World Traveler” and learn some geography along the way! Grades 4–8

Sherri and Lee Ann's Crazy Summertime Water Adventure Camp
Do you enjoy getting wet? Like throwing water balloons? Get wet and wild with us this summer while we play, create our own edible concoctions, and get creative with some cool crafts. Come join the fun with Sherri and Lee Ann's Crazy Summertime Water Adventure! It's sure to please even the most finicky camper! Grades 1–8

Kindergarten Camp
Help your child get ready for their first year of school with this wonderful introduction to the Sea Crest Kindergarten program. Grade K
Party Art
Have a good time with friends while exploring your creative side! The music will play as we munch on snacks, visit with friends, and express ourselves through arts and crafts projects. Come enjoy opportunities to make a masterpiece and maybe even a new friend! Grades 1–3

Radical Robotics
Ever wondered how a robot really works? In this hands-on learning experience, students will build a robotic vehicle using the Lego Mindstorm’s parts. Students will investigate the science behind the computer programming that will operate their robot and attempt to complete various challenges with their robot. Grades 3–6

Super Sports Camp!
Our camp will explore a wide range of sports from volleyball to gymnastics to Frisbee and golf. Students will have the chance to develop skills while learning some interesting facts about the history of each sport. We will also discuss the important role nutrition plays in developing healthy strong bodies and learn how to make our own healthy snacks each day. Grades 1–8
