physical education
The Physical Education program at Sea Crest School is where students learn about the benefits of being physically active, as well as the skills to incorporate physical activity safely into their lives. It provides students with an opportunity to grow in physical ability and confidence, as well as mature in their social interactions and emotional wellness. Students are encouraged to participate fully, and with maximum effort. It is our goal is to graduate students who are sportsmanlike, desire to maintain a healthy lifestyle and have a full working understanding of our Guiding Principles and how they apply to their lives.
In the primary grades (Kindergarten, grades 1 and 2), we seek to enhance the student’s social, cognitive, and physical development with a focus on gross-motor-skill activities such as hopping, skipping, and balancing, and, with the help of the school’s Guiding Principles, defining and reinforcing acceptable social standards.
In the formative years (grades 3, 4, and 5), we concentrate on sport-specific skill sets. Students gain confidence in their ability to participate in mainstream sports, develop sportsmanship and learn to compete positively through games designed specifically for these tasks. Positive peer relationships are emphasized, as students learn to resolve conflicts peacefully and work cooperatively.
All lower school students partake in physical education for 30 minutes every day.
In Middle School (grades 6, 7, and 8), we focus on the mastery of all previously learned physical and social skills, while introducing curriculum appropriate for the adolescent student. Nutritional science is incorporated and fitness training measured by the presidential fitness standards. We also introduce non-traditional sports to meet and expand student interests.
All middle school students partake in physical education for 50 minutes every day.
