high school placement
The goal of our high school counseling process is to make sure each student finds the high school that is the right fit.
At Sea Crest, high school counseling begins early in the Fall of the student’s 7th grade year, when families are given an exploratory questionnaire so that we may gauge their interest in area schools.
Shortly thereafter, Sea Crest hosts a session on high school placement, during which we break down the selection and application process. Families are given hot links to the school websites, along with calendars of their dates of interest such as open houses, shadow schedules, and application deadlines. The brochures of most independent and parochial schools in the area are available for families to browse. In addition, Sea Crest hosts several lunch meetings in which students may hear from representatives of area High Schools.
Families of 7th graders are encouraged to attend open houses at schools of interest so that they may hone in on their top choices by 8th grade, when students are encouraged to shadow at selected short-listed schools.
We assist students in setting up shadow days with prospective high schools, handle letters of recommendation, transcripts, test scores, and offer test prep support. Lastly, our placement counselor works with students in mock interviews to prepare them for their face-to-face interviews at prospective high schools.
