Lower School Faculty
The instructors in grades K through five are dynamic and talented individuals truly committed to their profession. They were chosen for their warmth, caring, and ability to tune in to the needs of individual learners and help them excel both academically and socially. They are excellent role models for our students and go the extra mile to make the classroom experience a rich one.

kathe bybee, grade three
Kathe has spent close to 30 years in education. She was one of the founding teachers at Sea Crest in 1996. Prior to moving to Half Moon Bay, Kathe taught in Colorado, and at the TASIS England Lower School. Kathe is a certified instructor of Discipline with Love and Logic, which she teaches to Sea Crest faculty and parents. She holds a M.Ed. in Computers in Education from Lesley College, a B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado and has a teaching credential.

lynda canty, kindergarten
At Sea Crest since 2005, Lynda earned her B.A. at San Diego State University, and then a multiple-subject teaching credential from St. Mary's College in Moraga. She previously worked for six years as a Grade 1 teacher in the Lafayette School District, where she was also a teacher mentor and served on the Professional Development Committee.

megan chapman, grade one
At Sea Crest since 2009, Megan relocated from Lansing, Michigan. She was a second grade teacher in the DeWitt public schools for four years. Prior to that, she worked several years in both a kindergarten and first grade classroom while earning her degrees and teaching credential. She earned her B.S. from Michigan State University in Family Community Services (Young Child Emphasis) and a M.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan-Flint.

debra christian, grade five
At Sea Crest since 2002, Debra is a veteran teacher who has taught at many grade levels. She has most enjoyed co-teaching with Jennifer Guevara in Grade 5 over the last several years. Debra has had extensive literacy training and especially enjoys teaching writing. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from California State University, Chico, and a multiple-subject teaching credential.

Kate Dickey, Grade two
Prior to coming to Sea Crest in 2010, Kate taught first and second grade at an independent school in Colorado. After earning her B.A. in Sociology from the University of New Hampshire, Kate had a career in Outdoor Education. Before teaching in Colorado, Kate earned a M.A. in Experiential Education and teaching credential from Prescott College, Arizona. She's happy to be back near the water.

kim flannigan, grade five
Kim has taught at Sea Crest since 2003. She formerly taught K–8 physical education at Sea Crest and Grade 1 in Daly City. She also owned and taught at Fiesta Gardens Swim School, and coached high school water polo and swim teams for many years. Kim holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies and a California multiple-subject teaching credential from San Francisco State University.

jen guevara, grade five
Prior to joining Sea Crest in 2001, Jennifer taught at La Honda Elementary School. Jennifer has a B.A. in Liberal Studies from California State University, Fresno, and a multiple subject teaching credential with CLAD emphasis. She has had extensive training in literacy, and enjoys her co-teaching assignment with Debra Christian in one of our fifth grade classrooms.

stephanie hanepen, grade one
Stephanie taught primary grades for six years in her hometown of Toronto, Canada, before teaching at the Woodland School in Portola Valley for three years. Stephanie earned her B.A. and teaching credential from York University (Toronto) and a further degree in Special Education from the University of Toronto. Stephanie joined the Sea Crest faculty in 2008.

Sarah Johnson, kindergarten
At Sea Crest since 2009, Sarah relocated to the area from Illinois, where she taught first grade at Blackberry Creek Elementary School in Elburn, about 30 miles outside of Chicago. Sarah also taught kindergartners in a summer program and worked in a pre-school for a year and a half while earning her B.S. in Education and teaching credential at Illinois State University.

amanda king, grade two
At Sea Crest since August 2006, Amanda King graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, with a B.A. in English in 2000. Prior to her teaching career, Amanda studied at the Sorbonne in Paris and worked with children in a variety of jobs both here and in France. She taught in San Mateo and Half Moon Bay while earning her multiple-subject teaching credential at Notre Dame de Namur.

shelly sikkema, grade four
Shelly is a nationally board-certified teacher with over 13 years' experience in the classroom. Prior to coming to Sea Crest in 2008, Shelly worked at Monarch Academy—an Aspire Charter School in Oakland —for nine years. Shelly earned her B.A. in Liberal Studies for California State University, Stanislaus, and her teaching credential from San Francisco State University.

lee ann tarling, aide
Lee Ann, at Sea Crest since 2002, is a long-time resident of Half Moon Bay. She assists in the Kindergarten classrooms and at the front desk. She holds a B.A. in Liberal Arts from San Francisco State University.

sherri trigueiro, aide
Sherri is our Before-School Care supervisor and classroom aide in both first and second grades. Prior to coming to Sea Crest in 2005, Sherri had been a nanny and school bus driver in addition to raising her own three children.
