Sea Crest is a member of the Small School Independent League (SSIL), which also includes Alma Heights Christian Academy, Charles Armstrong, Gideon Hausner, Girls Middle School, Highlands Christian, Nueva School, Pescadero, Woodland School, and Wornick Jewish Day School.

During the fall season students compete in flag football, girls’ volleyball, and cross country. The winter season features boys’ and girls’ basketall, and the spring season focuses on boys’ and girls’ soccer. Sea Crest also participates in one-day tournaments in swimming, golf and skateboarding, which are fun for athletes of all skill levels, and give students the opportunity to try new sports. Each of the one-day league tournaments is held on a weekday after school.

All team sports are open to students in 5th through 8th grades.

We are proud of the awards and accolades that our students have received from the leagues in which they play. In the past two years, Sea Crest has won five league championships. However, teamwork and sportsmanship are the first priorities of Sea Crest’s program, and the main measure of our teams’ success.

Basketball

The basketball season runs from Thanksgiving to St. Patrick’s Day. Students in grades 5–8 participate at the Varsity and Junior Varsity levels in the Small School Independent League. Both girls’ and boys’ team practices are twice weekly, and focus on the fundamentals of the sport, such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. Games are also held twice weekly. Due to our recently upgraded and renovated gymnasium, many of the basketball games are held on Sea Crest’s campus.

cross country

The cross country season runs from September 1 to October 31. Cross Country is a co-ed team and includes members from grades 5–8. There are no formal practices, so team members are encouraged to train for events on their own or in small groups. Races range in distance from 1.3 to 1.7 miles and are held weekly at various cross-country courses throughout the Peninsula, concluding with an all-league championship race.

flag football

The flag football season runs from September 1 to October 31. Both girls and boys are welcome to play on the co-ed team. Practices are held once per week after school, and games are also played weekly. During practices, team members focus on passing, catching and blocking. Flag football is a growing sport at Sea Crest and we encourage those who are interested to come try out for the Varsity team.

soccer

The soccer season runs from St. Patrick’s Day to Memorial Day. Students in grades 5–8 are invited to participate on either the boys’ or girls’ teams. In order to improve each individual player’s skill sets, the girls and boys teams practice together weekly. During practice, the coaches focus on kicking, passing, and defense. Games are held twice weekly at locations around the Peninsula.

tennis

The tennis season runs from St. Patrick’s Day to Memorial Day. Students in grades 5–8 are invited to participate on the co-ed teams. In order to improve each individual player’s skill sets, the teams practice weekly. During practice, the coaches focus on the fundamentals of the sport such as forehand, backhand, and serving. Games are held twice weekly at locations around the Peninsula.

volleyball

The girls’ volleyball season runs from September 1 to October 31. Sea Crest’s students play on either Junior Varsity or Varsity, with students from grades 5–8 on each team. Practices are held before school, 2–4 times per week. Games are played twice weekly after school, often in Sea Crest’s gymnasium. Due to the frequency and time of the practices, students not only learn passing, setting and spiking, but also the responsibility of commitment to their team.
